Henry Prosper Barthe, 87, of Savannah, Georgia and widower of Helen Wagner Barthe, died Wednesday evening, August 2, 2017, at Memorial University Medical Center.



Born in Lock No. 4, Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late Charles Victor Barthe and the late Augustine Castainer Barthe. Mr. Barthe was a member of Montgomery Presbyterian Church and a former member of Christ Presbyterian Church Pooler. He was an Elder in the Presbyterian Church, USA for more than 50 years and an Elder Emeritus at Christ Presbyterian Church Pooler. Mr. Barthe was a Merchant Marine officer and a United States Navy veteran having served in the Korean Conflict. He was a mechanical engineer who retired as a Vice President with Schroeder Industries in Pittsburgh, manufacturers of mining and hydraulic testing equipment.



In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Norva Dorothy Jacobs, and a brother, Charles Louis Barthe.



Surviving are one daughter, Jean B. Strong and her husband, Keith, of Savannah, Georgia; one son, Wayne W. Barthe and his wife, Carol, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and four grandchildren, Samantha S. Strong, Brandon R. Yingling, William 'Bill' P. Bohr and Jeremiah S. Williams.



The memorial service will be held at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon, August 6, 2017, at Montgomery Presbyterian Church. Private inurnment will be at Skidaway Island Presbyterian Church.



The family will receive friends in the social hall after the memorial service.
