SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Helen Chernoff Kandel died peacefully in her sleep on April 16, 2010, one day after celebrating her 95th birthday. She was surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will deeply miss her. She was a resident of Buckingham South.
Helen was married to Seymour Z. Kandel, of blessed memory, for 67 years. They both resided in Savannah, Georgia, their native home. For over twenty years, Helen served as a Pink Lady volunteer at Candler and Memorial Hospitals. She was an avid reader, and loved to cook and bake for family and friends. Her last piece of advice appeared recently in this month's "Buckingham Bulletin": "Don't ever talk about anyone. If you can manage your own business, you're doing well. Be honest. Learn something new every day!"
She is survived by her daughter, Simone K. Center and her husband, Leo Center; her son, Phillip Kandel and Dr. Donna Moyers, of Vieques, Puerto Rico; her grandson, Eric S. Robinson and his wife, Jennifer Sime, and her great-granddaughters, Liv Sime-Robinson and Anni Sime-Robinson, all of Berkeley, California; her granddaughter, Lisa M. Robinson and her husband, Ken Rosenthal, and her step-great-granddaughters, Zoe Rosenthal and Francesca Rosenthal, all of Tucson, Arizona; and her granddaughter, Lori S. Robinson of Annapolis, California.
The funeral service will be held at 1o'clock Sunday afternoon at the graveside, Bonaventure Cemetery, conducted by Rabbi Avigdor Slatus.
The family will be sitting Shiva from 3 until 7 o'clock from Sunday, April 18th through Thursday, April 22nd, and from 12 until 2 o'clock Friday afternoon, April 23rd.
