Harry Lange King passed February 11,2014 under hospice care after a brief illness.
A lifelong resident of Savannah, Harry was preceded in death by his parents, Geoffrey Brevard King and Bertha Lange King, his brother, Geoffrey B. King and Margaret Baughn King.
Harry is survived by his wife, Jane Bulcken King; children, Margaret King (Clay), Betty Reiter King,?? Lange King (Adelaida); son-in-law, Todd Reiter; step-sons, Frank McNeal (Mellie), Billy McNeal (Tricia); grandchildren, Julia, Wills, Lange, Natalie, Emerson, Brooke, Kaitlyn, Paige, Christy, Will, Jane, and two great-grandchildren, Zoe and Dylan.
Harry was educated at Oxford College and graduated from Emory University. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout at the age of 13. At the outbreak of war he enlisted in the Navy as a NAVCAD in Pensacola and served as a Fighter Pilot in the Korean War flying F4U Corsairs, F8F Bearcats, F9F Panthers and F2H-3 Banshees in multiple combat missions. Following his service he returned to Savannah to join his father in the construction business. Together at G. B. King Co. they developed numerous properties and subdivisions.?? With his wife, Jane, Harry had a 40 year career in breeding thoroughbred hunter jumpers at their Beaver Lake Farms.
Along with many lifelong friends Harry enjoyed fellowship at the German Heritage Society. He was baptized, confirmed and married at the Lutheran Church of the Ascension. Harry loved low country living along the Wilmington River.?? A perfect evening included family, friends, his beloved dogs, freshly caught shrimp and an icy cocktail.
