Harry James Hampton

Harry James Hampton, age 78, of Savannah, Georgia, passed away at is home April 2, 2023.

Harry was born on September 11, 1944, in Kansas City, Kansas to Phillip Jewel Hampton and Dorothy Coolridge Hampton, both preceded him in death. Harry pride himself being a role model to his younger brother, Robert Keith Hampton, who also preceded him in death. The family later migrated to Savannah, Georgia in 1951 in their earlier years. He later graduated from Johnson High School in 1963. He enjoined exploring new and advanced technology and tinkering with mechanics. After receiving his high school diploma, completing grade school at Johnson High School, he went on to advance his higher education at Savannah State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Engineering.

While Harry attended Savannah State University, he worked part-time at Memorial Medical Center as an orderly, where he later met Gloria Allen Hampton, who worked as a CNA, and they went on to marry in 1969. The two had three children, daughter Noel Tenner (Raffeeal L.TennerL. Tenner), daughter Nicole Dorsey (Gregory D. Dorsey, ret. SGM of the United States Army), and son Phillip James Hampton. They also parented thiertheir niece, Nakia A. Daniels, during her early childhood years.

Soon after graduating from Savannah State University, Harry was draftedinto the United States Army to serve in the Vietnam War and proudly served his country from 1969 - 1972. After completing his tour of duty, he returned to Savannah, Georgia and became an Aerospace Engineer for Gulfstream Aerospace. He enjoyed his career and developed many patents for Boeing and other various aircraft industries. Harry continued his post-graduation studies after the military and completed Juris Doctor (JD) degree from John Marshal Law School.

Some of Harry’s passions in life included participating as a proud member of the Prince Hall Masonic Lodge, of Savannah, Georgia. He also enjoyed boating, fishing, and spending time at his home with his family on Burnside Island, GA. Harry retired from Gulfstream Aerospace in 1992 and continued his Aerospace Career as a freelance contractor for several more years and traveled to various regions of the U.S. and Canada. During this time, he later partnered with Lottie Faye Harris, and assumed responsibility of assisting Faye with raising her loving children, Monique Harris, Melia Harris, Maurice Harris, Christopher Harris, and a host of grandchildren.

Harry is survived by his children and grandchildren, Malik Tyheem Hampton, Ore Ashley Tenner, Amoni DeWayne Dorsey, and Owen Jewell Dorsey. He leaves a host of friends and loved ones.

He was preceded in passing by his biological mother Winifred Boyd, Father Phillip Jewel Hampton, Mother Dorothy Hampton, and brother Keith Robert Hampton.

The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Monday, April 10, 2023, at Gamble Funeral Services.

The committal will be held at 3:00 PM at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville, GA.
