Harry Brodmann Jr.

March 3, 1937 — December 27, 2023

Harry Brodmann, 86, passed peacefully on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 in the company of family and loved ones.

A man after God’s own heart, Harry was a living testimony to the goodness, wisdom, and love of our Savior, Jesus Christ. The works of his life bear witness to the faith in his heart, and his testimony will continue to speak to us through the lives of all those who were blessed to know him. A loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, shepherd, mentor and leader in the Christian faith, Harry’s impact on the lives of others is immeasurable, and he will be greatly missed. Now, we rest in the joy of knowing he is with his Lord and Savior. He has fought the good fight, he has finished the race, he has kept the faith, and there is laid up for him the crown of righteousness which is from the Lord.

Surviving are his brother, William Davis Brodmann and his wife, Patty; his children, Nancy Brodmann Peavy; Harry Brodmann III and his wife, Cheryl; Andrew William Brodmann and his wife, Kathryn; and Joanna Brodmann Newman and her husband, Trevor; his grandchildren, Harry Ryan Brodmann and his wife, Candace; David Michael Brodmann and his wife, Amanda; Joshua Brodmann Peavy; Alexander Dale Brodmann and his wife Logan; Andrew William Brodmann, Jr. and his wife, Morgan; Scott Thomas Brodmann and his wife Caroline; Lydia Grace Peavy; Michael Evan Brodmann and his fiancée, Emily; and Marjorie Joy Newman; his great-grandchildren, Ettalee Camille Brodmann, Graham Miles Brodmann, Henry David Brodmann, Luke Joseph Brodmann, Elizabeth Joyce Brodmann, Violet Marie Brodmann, Sophie Joyce Brodmann, and Harry Banks Brodmann.

Harry married his high school sweetheart, Joyce Beatron Covington Brodmann, on February 16, 1957. They served their Heavenly Father together for 60 years before his beloved left him to go rest in the arms of her Shepherd in 2017. Together, they served as youth advisors at Eastern Heights Presbyterian Church for many years, mentored young men and women in the faith, and trained up their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

Harry served as a deacon, and later, as an elder at Eastern Heights Presbyterian Church in Savannah. In the mid 1970s, he left Eastern Heights with his family to help plant Providence Presbyterian Church. There they served for nearly 20 years before moving on to help plant Kirk of the Isles Presbyterian Church, now known as The Kirk Presbyterian. Harry also served as a ruling elder on provisional boards of a few other church plants as they grew. While at the Kirk, Harry left his active duties as elder and took on the title of Elder Emeritus where he continued to advise and mentor his fellow elders and other brothers in the faith.

Harry grew up fishing, shrimping, swimming, skiing, and living in and on the river. When his children were young, he and Joyce enjoyed taking them camping, fishing, and on beach vacations, mostly at Tybee. Many of their grandchildren learned to swim in the pool in Grandmaw and Granddaddy’s backyard, and most of them credit their grandparents with teaching them to swim! Joyce and Harry’s children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren share their love of rivers, beaches, and oceans, often feeling closest to God when enjoying his creation. Another activity Harry and many of his offspring shared an appreciation of is golf which he enjoyed until early this year when his balance started failing him and he very reluctantly had to let that activity go.

God’s Word doesn’t give us many details about what Heaven will be like, but we, his family, like to think of our Mama and Daddy, our Grandmaw and Granddaddy, walking down those streets of gold as Mama shows him all the beautiful flowers in “colors we’ve never seen before!” Oh how he will enjoy having doctrinal discussions with all the great men of faith who went to glory before him!

A Memorial Service will be held at The Independent Presbyterian Church, 207 Bull St, Savannah, GA 31401, 10 o'clock Tuesday morning.

A private burial will be held at Bonaventure Cemetery.

Donations in Harry's memory may be made to New Covenant Presbyterian Church, 154 Thunderbird Dr Suite #201, Richmond Hill, GA 31324.
