Harriet Ferst Alpert passed away on November 24, 2012 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Atlanta, Georgia. Harriet was born January 25, 1919 in Savannah, Georgia.?? She was the daughter of the late Ida Kaminsky Ferst, Savannah, Georgia.



A graduate of Hood College, Frederick, Maryland, Harriet had an exceptional eye for fashion, d??cor, and an inner passion for the arts especially theater and Broadway musicals. She loved to dance, enjoyed fine cuisine and family summers ocean side at Tybee Beach and Hilton Head.?? Harriet married Dr. Harry Leonard Alpert, a Lt. Col. in the US Army during World War II.???? Together they set up early residence in Fulton, New York where Dr. Alpert maintained a small town medical practice. They gave birth to two daughters, Diane and Paula.?? Harriet was a refined, conservative Southerner who loved her hometown Savannah, Georgia which led to the Alpert family's relocation in 1963. There she belonged to Agudath Achim Synagogue. In 2004, she moved to Atlanta, Georgia where she was a resident of the Huntcliff Summit.



Harriet was a stellar mother and wife. Widowed at the young age of 45. She dedicated her life as both mother and father to rearing her daughters and unselfishly caring for family members including her mother, brother, and an aunt and uncle.?? Known for her stunning appearance and inner beauty, she was practical, organized and a perfectionist. Harriet often times exclaimed that her greatest accomplishment was her daughters, their values, successes and commitment to her.



Harriet is survived by her daughters Diane Alpert Brant and her husband Lawrence I. Brant, DDS, Delray Beach, Florida, Paula Alpert Freedman and her husband Dr. Allan Freedman, and her adored granddaughter Sarah (Mindy) Freedman, Stone Mountain, Georgia.



The funeral service will be held at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the graveside, Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, Georgia.



Shiva will be observed at 7 p.m. on November 26, 27 and 28 at the Freedman residence.



In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Congregation Shaarei Shamayim, Atlanta, Georgia, Habitat for Humanity, Hood College or PAWS Atlanta.
