SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Hallie Mock Getty of Savannah, Georgia, widow of Walter Kershaw Getty, Sr., died Tuesday morning, November 3, 2009, at Candler Hospital.
Born October 12, 1912, in Ridgeland, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late John Benjamin Mock and Annie Ward Mock. Mrs. Getty graduated from Oglethorpe Sanatorium Nursing Program as a registered nurse and served many years in local hospitals and as a nurse at Savannah High School. Mrs. Getty is a member of First Christian Church where she was active in Christian Women's Fellowship for many years. In the past she was a Sunday School Teacher and Leader in Christian Youth Fellowship.
She was a Candler Auxiliary Volunteer for many years in Pastoral Care and other areas.
Mrs. Getty was preceded in death by her husband Walter Kershaw Getty, Sr.; two brothers and six sisters.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn G. and Frank G. Murray of Savannah, Georgia; two sons and daughters-in-law, The Reverend W. Kershaw, Jr. and
Lynn C. Getty of Fleetwood, North Carolina, and John W. and Susan C. Getty of Savannah, Georgia; five grandchildren, The Reverend Leigh G. Hinkel, The Reverend C. Paige Getty, Jennifer G. Zervis, J. Eric Getty and F. Gray Murray, Jr.; seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock Thursday at Gamble Funeral Service, 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by The Reverend Dr. Ralph Bailey. Interment will be in the Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
