Gregory Martin Hirsch, 60, passed away at home on August 3, 2023.
A Savannah native, Greg’s only years residing outside the city were spent at the University of Georgia, where he obtained his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting. Upon becoming a Certified Public Accountant, Greg returned to Savannah to work alongside his late father, Bernard (Bernie) Hirsch, at Hirsch & Company, a Savannah-based public accounting firm. Greg was a Managing Partner at Hirsch & Company, then later Hirsch & Tucker, for a combined 35 years.
With unwavering dedication to his community and faith, Greg held many leadership roles at the Congregation B’nai Brith Jacob, including terms as the congregations's president and Brotherhood treasurer. He also championed numerous causes close to his heart; in particular, advocating for therapeutic advances and quality of life improvements for ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) and breast cancer patients. In his spare time, Greg enjoyed spending time with his family on Tybee Island, fishing, and avidly following his Georgia Bulldogs.
Greg is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 35 years, Judith Duwell Hirsch; son, Jonathan Hirsch; daughter, Sarah Hirsch Meyer and her husband, Brian; daughter, Lena Hirsch; granddaughter, Bailey Meyer; mother, Marcia Hirsch; sister, Susan Hirsch and her husband, Michael Goldstein; and loving cousins, aunts, brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and role model, Bernard (Bernie) Hirsch.
Shiva will be held at the Hirsch residence, 308 Megan Court, Savannah, GA 31405, from Sunday, August 6 through Wednesday, August 9 from 1-4 pm and 7-9 pm daily with evening services at 6:35pm daily.
