SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Grady Edward Dickey, USAF (Ret.), 85, of Savannah, Georgia, husband of Madie Lee Clements Dickey, died Friday morning, August 21, 2009, at Spanish Oaks Hospice.
Born March 15, 1924, in Screven County, Georgia, he was a son of the late John Forrest Dickey and the late Audrey Ivynetta Beard Dickey. Mr. Dickey was of the Methodist faith. Following his high school graduation, he entered the United States Army and served in the European Theatre until the end of World War II. He later joined the United States Air Force and served twenty years. Mr. Dickey served in Vietnam during the early days of the war. After retiring from the Air Force, he joined the staff of the Savannah News Press and worked until his second retirement.
Surviving are his wife of sixty-one years, Madie Lee Clements Dickey of Savannah, Georgia; two daughters, Deborah Connor and her husband, Tom, of Bluffton, South Carolina, and Donna Bailey and her husband, Richard, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina; four grandchildren, Christian Connor and Steven Connor, both of Savannah, Georgia, and Blake Bailey and Ashley Bailey, both of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, and two great-grandchildren, Bailey Connor and Aiden Connor.
The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 o'clock Sunday afternoon at Gamble Funeral Service, 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Monday morning in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by The Reverend John A. Haney. Interment, with full military honors, will be in Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park - West.
Pallbearers will be Tom Connor, Richard Bailey, Christian Connor, Steve Connor, Blake Bailey and Joe Black.
