Gloria DeVan, 90, of Savannah, Georgia, died Tuesday evening, September 20, 2016, at Habersham House.
Born in Pine Hill, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late James Oscar DeVan and the late Eva Drucilla Adams DeVan. Miss DeVan was a longtime active member of Lakeland United Methodist Temple in Lakeland, Florida, where she sang in the choir and was involved in many church activities. She earned her Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Alabama and her Master of Education degree from the University of Mississippi. Miss DeVan was a teacher, counselor, and retired as an assistant principal/administrator for Polk County School System. She was a devoted daughter who took care of her mother for many years. Miss DeVan remained an avid Alabama fan, who also enjoyed walking and playing golf.
Survivors include two nephews, Clifford C. DeVan and his wife, Jenny, and William Lewis DeVan, Jr.; one niece, Drucilla Grace DeVan; one great-niece, Allison Elizabeth DeVan and her husband, Justin Wienke; one great-nephew, Benjamin Bradford DeVan and his wife, Kartini, and a cousin, Harold Swearingen and his wife, Anne.
A memorial service will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at McDonough First United Methodist Church conducted by The Reverend Rick Maeser.
