SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Glenn William "Lucky" Luckock, 87, of Savannah, Georgia, husband of Carol Ann Krutz Luckock, died Tuesday evening, April 27, 2010, at Savannah Specialty Center under the care of Odyssey Hospice.
Born in Verona, Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late William Henry Luckock, Jr. and the late Mary J. Molleston Luckock. Glenn was a lifetime resident of Allegheny County. He served three years with the U. S. Fifth Air Force of which twenty nine months were overseas as a communication man with the 324th Airdrome Squadron. Glenn saw action in New Guinea, Dutch East Indies, Philippines, Okinawa, and the Japan Occupation. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal with two Bronze Stars, Philippine Presidential Unit Citation with Bronze Star, Army of Occupation Medal with Japanese Clasp, the American Campaign Service Medal and the Victory Medal for World War II. Glenn also received the sharp shooter award on the 30 cal. Carbine, 2D CL 30 and 50 cal. machine gun. He enjoyed thirty four years with PPG Industries Research and Development Center, where he assisted in the formulation and technical service of coil, container, and general industries finishes. Glenn acquired several United States Patents, one of which is embossed and mounted on a metal plaque. He also illustrated graphic art layout and design for company publications in technical magazines and college institution seminars. Glenn enjoyed traveling with his wife, Carol, on business trips and vacations. Both loved music and rhythm and melody for ball room and roller skate dancing. They belonged to the Professional Guild of the National Amateur Roller Skating Association and taught dance and figure along with beginner classes for many years at the Ches-A-Rena Rink located in Cheswick, Pennsylvania. They also promoted and directed Girl and Boy Scout merit programs for individual sport achievement. They received letters of commendation for the efforts of many years.
Glenn also enjoyed working on the family tree farm overlooking the Town of Freeport. He was a member of the Societies for Paint Technology of Pittsburgh, a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post 894, and American Legion Post 0683. Glenn was an avid golfer, worker of art, antiques collector, gardening and yard work, and traveling with his wife, Carol.
Surviving are two sisters, Betty Starr of Jacksonville, Florida, and Ruth McWilliams of Penn Hills, Pennsylvania; his in-laws, Samuel and Virginia Krutz of Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania, Mildred Lutz of Freeport, Pennsylvania, and Gary and Marlene Balbo of Savannah, Georgia, and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 o'clock Sunday afternoon and from 6 until 8 Sunday evening at Duster Funeral Home in Tarentum, Pennsylvania.
The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Monday morning in the chapel of Duster Funeral Home. Entombment, with full military honors, will be in Mount Airy Cemetery in Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania.
