Gerald 'Jerry' Sheffy Fields, 91, of Savannah, Georgia and husband of Elmyra Roberta 'Bobby' Sempsrott Fields, died Tuesday afternoon, June 9, 2020, at St. Joseph's Hospital.
Born in Detroit, Michigan, he was a son of the late Gerald Sheffy Fields and the late Hazel Virginia Wright Ubel. Mr. Fields was a member of White Bluff United Methodist Church. He was a United States Air Force veteran. Mr. Fields retired as a chemical engineer working with automotive filters at Champion Laboratories. He held many patents and assisted in designing a filter for the artificial heart. Mr. Fields loved spending time with his family, skeet shooting, playing golf, boating, skiing, and bowling.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Gerald 'Jerry' Sheffy Fields III.
Surviving are his wife of almost 69 years, Elmyra Roberta 'Bobby' Sempsrott Fields; one daughter, Jamie Fields-Scholten and her husband, Ray; one son, Stephen 'Steve' M. Fields and his wife, Carolyn Spahr; seven grandchildren, Jessie Swafford and her husband, James, Katie Mixon and her husband, Nathan; Christina Scholten, David Fields, Emerald Fields Barker and her husband, Devon, Mary Fields, and Cody Fields; five great-grandchildren, Jacob Swafford, Julia Swafford, Ryan Mixon, Bradley Mixon, and Angelina Mixon; one sister, Pastor Jeri Fields; one brother, Sheffy Fields and his wife, Mary, and nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12 until 1 o'clock Saturday afternoon, June 13, 2020, at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 1 o'clock Saturday afternoon, June 13, 2020, in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by the Reverend Robert E. Belloir. Interment will be in the Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
