Georgia Bailey Bowen, 85, of Savannah, Georgia and widow of William Roderick Bowen, went peacefully home surrounded by her family to be with the Lord on Tuesday afternoon, September 30, 2014, at Memorial University Medical Center.
She grew up in Macon, Georgia and in 1946, at the age of 17, was a finalist in the Miss Macon Beauty Pageant.?? She worked briefly in the apparel industry before meeting her husband and enjoying becoming a homemaker and mother. She was a member of Isle of Hope Baptist Church since 1957.
In addition to her husband of 57 years, William Roderick Bowen, she was preceded in death by her father and mother, Gordon Montgomery Bailey and Mary Sams Bailey, and her siblings, Gordon Montgomery Bailey, Jr, Hardeman Shy Bailey and Harriet Bailey Kitchens.
She is survived by her devoted daughter, Georgia 'Diane' Robbins and her husband, William; her step-son, Richard C. Bowen and his wife, Shirley; her sister-in-law, Judy Wardlaw; her brother-in-law, Lynn; her siblings, Sara Bailey Hefner, Robert Henry Bailey and Jennie Bailey McLean; three grandchildren; Clay Branson, Sheila Naydeck and her husband, Mike, and Kyle Robbins; one great-grandson; five great-granddaughters, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 o'clock Sunday afternoon at Isle of Hope Baptist Church ' 22 Rose Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Monday morning at the graveside, Beards Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery near Glennville, conducted by Pastor William Miller, Jr.
