George Thomas Ryles, Jr., 92, of Savannah, Georgia, died Monday evening, February 10, 2020, at Memorial University Medical Center.
Born in Macon, Georgia, he was a son of the late George Thomas Ryles, Sr. and the late Dessie Mae Morgan Ryles. Mr. Ryles was a member of Skidaway Island United Methodist Church and a former member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was a United States Navy veteran. Mr. Ryles retired as a conductor after more than 55 years with CSX Railroad. He was a tennis pro at Wilmington Island Club and a founding member of the Savannah Tennis Association.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Laura Ryles Morrison; a son-in-law, William 'Billy' F. Lingenfelser; a grandson, Thomas Palmer; three sisters, Barbara R. Potts, Florence R. Ramsey and Juanita R. Smith, and one brother, Jimmy Ryles.
Survivors include two daughters, Sheila R. Ford and her husband, Donald, and Susan D. Lingenfelser; two sons, George Thomas Ryles III and Robin Ryles and his fianc??e, Debbie McEwen; six grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Ryles Smith and Glenda Ryles Gildea, and nieces and nephews.
The memorial service will be held at 10 o'clock Saturday, February 15, 2020, at Bethesda Historic Chapel ' 9520 Ferguson Avenue, Savannah, conducted by the Reverend Peter J. Hartmann. Interment will be private.
