George Andrew (Andy) Robbins, 67 died Monday morning after a long struggle with emphysema.?? Andy was preceded in death by his parents, George and Simmie Robbins and is survived by his constant companion, Mary C. Dunn, his sister, Delores Saxman and his brother, Eddie Robbins. Andy was a Vietnam Veteran (Marine Corps) who served honorably.?? Andy was a Marine Surveyor and did Disaster Assessment for FEMA.?? Prior to his disability, Andy enjoyed hunting, fishing and beading.?? After becoming disabled, Andy enjoyed going to garage sales, gardening, traveling, and reading philosophy. He always loved playing with his grandchildren.
Andy was a kind gentle soul who was fun-loving, irreverent and prone to making inappropriate remarks at times. Andy loved to tell tall tales and silly jokes and took great pleasure in debate.?? He approached life with a child-like simplicity and so he related well to children.?? He was generous, optimistic and generally looked for the good in everyone.?? He was liked by people who knew him casually and loved by those who knew him well.
Andy was affectionately called 'Uncle Andy' by two generations of nieces and nephews and was considered grandfather to the grandchildren of Mary C. Dunn.?? ??Andy expressed a desire to acknowledge and include his great nieces and nephews and surrogate grandchildren by name as his surviving relatives:?? Erin Mullins and Joel Teasley,(Heather & Michael Teasley) Isabella Dalbuldak(Kristina & Cem Dalbudak), Alexandra Saxman (David and Renee Saxman)Kyle Robbins(Eddie & Donna Robbins).?? His surrogate grandchildren are Linda Lenane, Capers Franklin Smith, Julie and Elizabeth Kostilnik, Liz Dunn, and Thomas Schandolph.?? Andy considered Michael McConkey and Helen and Mark Schandolph as part of his family. He will be greatly missed.
