It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Gayle Josey at the age of 64. Gayle departed from this world unexpectedly, leaving behind a legacy of love, compassion, and joy.
Born on September 3, 1959, Gayle touched the lives of all who knew her. A lifelong resident of Savannah, Georgia, and a St. Vincent’s Academy graduate, class of 1977, she was a beacon of light, radiating warmth and kindness to everyone she encountered.
Gayle lived a life filled with passion and purpose. Her unwavering dedication to her family and friends was evident in every moment shared together. As a devoted mother, wife, sister, and friend, she showered those around her with love and support. Gayle's nurturing spirit created a home filled with faith, kindness and cherished memories.
Throughout her life, Gayle was known for generosity and selflessness. She always put the needs of others before her own, offering a helping hand and a listening ear to anyone in need. Her compassionate heart and empathetic nature left an impact on all who crossed her path.
In addition to her role as a loving matriarch, Gayle spent the last 15 years of her life dedicated to Benedictine Military School, where she served a Director of Financial Aid and Student Billing, leaving a lasting impact on many families throughout the Savannah community. She loved arts and crafts, the beach, holidays and family traditions, and spending time with her grandchildren and grand dog as well as serving anyone and everyone who called upon her for help and assistance. Giving to others brought her so much joy. Her legacy of love and kindness will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Gayle is survived by her loving husband, Rick Josey; her children, Leslie Monson (Christian), Austin Josey, and Reagan Owens (Lee); her sister, Tina Blackston (Ben), and brother, Tommy Blanton (Thea); grandchildren Ford and Darby Monson and Jake Owens; grand dog Honey; niece and nephew Brooke Sims (Joey) and John Blanton (Bobby); and a multitude of family and friends who will carry her memory with them always. Gayle is preceded in death by her parents, Kathleen “Kay” and Bernard Thomas “Tom” Blanton, Jr. and her grandparents, Daisy Leona and Earl Johnson and Catherine and Bernard Thomas “Teeny” Blanton, Sr.
Visitation and Rosary will take place Thursday, April 11, 5:30-7:30 p.m., at St. James Catholic Church. Catholic funeral and burial will take place Friday, April 12, at 1:00 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Greenwich Cemetery. Celebration of Life immediately follows at Benedictine Military School, 4:00-6:00 p.m. All who knew and loved Gayle are invited to join in commemorating the remarkable woman she was.
Though Gayle may no longer walk beside us, her spirit will forever shine brightly, guiding us with love and light. May she rest in eternal peace, knowing that she was deeply cherished and will be profoundly missed.
