Fredzella 'Freddie' Hodges Tilton, 81, of Savannah, Georgia and wife of Joseph Francis Tilton, Jr., died Sunday evening, August 3, 2014, surrounded by her family.



Born in Savannah on January 8, 1933, Mrs. Tilton was a daughter of the late Edward Pottle Hodges and the late Carrie Beard Hodges.



Mrs. Tilton graduated from Savannah High School class of 1951, and attended business school in St. Augustine, Florida.?? She was a substitute teacher in the Chatham County Public Schools.?? Mrs. Tilton married her high school sweetheart and enjoyed nearly 64 years of marriage.



She was a long-time communicant of Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church and now St. Peter the Apostle Church, where she was very active while raising her children.



She enjoyed playing bridge, traveling on family vacations, following the Georgia Bulldogs and Atlanta Braves, and watching Fox News.?? One of her final wishes was to see all of her grandchildren graduate.



Freddie was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Joseph 'Bubba' F. Tilton III; two brothers, George P. Hodges and James E. Hodges, Sr.; and two sisters, Dorothy O. Hodges and Anne M. Hodges.



Survivors include her husband, Joseph Francis Tilton, Jr.; her daughter, Jan Tilton Brown and her husband, Frank; her son, Steven Craig Tilton and his wife, Beth; her brother, Alex 'Bubber' H. Hodges and his wife, Alice; her grandchildren, Christopher A. Brown, Suzanne B. Moseley, and her husband, Andrew, Kathryn B. Moore and her husband, Steven, Joseph 'Joey' F. Tilton IV, Jacqueline 'Jacky' N. Tilton, Steven J. Tilton, Mattie E. Tilton; and several nieces and nephews.



The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock Tuesday at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church with the Christian Wake Service being held at 6:30 o'clock.



The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 o'clock Wednesday in St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church conducted by The Reverend Paul Cabrita, S.M.?? Interment will be in the Greenwich Section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
