TYBEE ISLAND, GEORGIA - Frances "Polly" Vickers Young, 93, formerly of Roxboro, North Carolina, Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Atlanta, Georgia, and since 1982 at Tybee Island, Georgia, widow of Richard Knox Young, died Friday morning, May 21, 2010, at her home under the care of Hospice Savannah.
Born in Roxboro, North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Grover Cleveland Vickers and the late Ida Malessa Belvin Vickers. Mrs. Young was a member of Peachtree Baptist Church in Atlanta and worked at Emory University Clinic for 15 years. In addition to her husband and parents, she was precededin death by her daughter, Vicki Young Reddick; a son, David Vickers Young, and seven siblings.
Surviving are her son, Father Richard K. Young who is the Catholic Port of Savannah Chaplain and Hispanic Priest of Sacred Heart Catholic Church; her son-in-law, Lovett Reddick of Kingsport, Tennessee; her granddaughter, Alice "Polly" Reddick, of Kingsport, Tennessee, and her grandson, Evan Reddick and his wife, Amanda, of Dallas, Texas.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o'clock Monday evening at Gamble Funeral Service, 410 Stephenson Avenue, with a Rosary service being held at 7 o'clock in the funeral home chapel.
The funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the graveside, Floral Hills Memory Gardens, Atlanta, Georgia, conducted by Father Richard K. Young.
