Frances Hirshberg Wagger

Frances Hirshberg Wagger died peacefully on Friday at the age of 94. She was born in Midland, Michigan to Helen and Barnard Hirshberg. Frances was married to Larry Wagger shortly after the end of World War II and they were together continuously until he died just a few months ago. They had two daughters, Susan and Margie.
Frances and Larry were members of the Greatest Generation. Frances ran ladies\' dress business and bridal shop after the War. Once they were married, Frances traveled the world with Larry, and they both smelled the roses all along the way. They lived in North Carolina, Savannah, Boston, Atlanta, St. Louis, and Alicante, Spain, with extended time in New York City, as well. They settled back in Savannah more than 30 years ago, and remained there happy among family and friends.
Frances was an intrepid companion to Larry on their travels, which reached South America, Europe, Asia, the Middle East and all points in between. She was a firm and loving presence behind Larry\'s outsize personality. Larry called her \"small but mighty,\" a description she lived up to throughout her days.
Frances was predeceased by her daughter Susan Wagger Karpf and her brothers Sy and Bernard.
She is survived by her daughter, Margie Wagger Smith of New Mexico; her son-in-law, Michael Karpf of Savannah; her grandchildren, Ben and Suzy Karpf of Savannah; her great-grandchildren, Sammy and Charlie Karpf, and many loving nieces and nephews, including Jan Hirshberg, Caryle Hirshberg and Jan Wagger Katz.
The funeral service will be at the graveside, Bonaventure Cemetery, Sunday June 28th at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Congregation Agudath Achim, the Savannah Jewish Federation and Hospice Savannah.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Buckingham South and caregivers Bobbi Wiggins and Malinda Carroll for their care and compassion for Frances.
