Frances Desposito McBride, 93, died Saturday afternoon, August 13, 2016, at Hospice Savannah. She was born on February 8, 1923, in Savannah, Georgia to Annie and Ralph Desposito, and was the widow of James E. McBride, Sr. She was a long time communicant of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by three sons, Thomas Anthony 'Tony' McBride, Ronald Joseph 'Ronnie' McBride, and Patrick Joseph McBride, and her brothers, Ralph, Salvadore, Carlo and Freddie Desposito.
A feisty Italian matriarch, she loved her family more than life itself. Holiday meals were her passion. You had better arrive early and hungry because she would have been cooking for days. Lasagna, pizza and spaghetti made with her secret family recipe sauce was always on the menu. A Bingo fanatic, she could work her own 12 cards at one time and still know what numbers were open on yours. She loved to visit the residents in nursing homes with the Knights of Columbus. She loved to tell the stories of her 5 boys and her adventures raising them. She was always right. Period. She taught her two daughters-in-law what it meant to marry into an Italian family. Her husband may have been Irish, but he had to learn to live in her Italian home. She loved Pavarotti and you could often hear 'Ave Maria' or ''O Sole Mio' in the background of her home. We just bet the Angels were singing those opera songs Saturday afternoon as she walked through the Heavenly gates! RIP Frances Desposito McBride. There will never be another like you.
Left to carry on her traditions are her oldest son, James E. 'Jim' McBride, daughter-in-law, Karen McBride and youngest son, Frank S. McBride, daughter-in-law, Natasha McBride; six grandchildren, James C. 'Jay' McBride, Charles B. 'Chip' McBride, Chelsea Anderson, Riley McBride, Shawn (Dee) McBride and Christian McBride; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Annette Desposito King; cousin Sister Assunta and many nieces and nephews.
