Frances Burnette Copeland, 98, of Savannah, Georgia and widow of Alpheus Fears Copeland, Jr., died peacefully Sunday evening, August 12, 2018, at her home and surrounded by her family.
Born in Howell, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Bryant Burnette and the late Lona Belle Lewis Burnette. Mrs. Copeland was a former member of Bull Street Baptist Church for more than 30 years and was a member of Bible Baptist Church where she was a member of the Master's Sunday School Class. She worked at Robins Field for the Department of the Navy during World War II. Mrs. Copeland was a former secretary for Payless Foods and later retired from Chatham Home Builders. She enjoyed serving others by cooking meals, sewing, and providing transportation for them. Mrs. Copeland loved her family, gardening and working in her yard.
In addition to her husband of 13 years, who was 43 when he died in 1959, and her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Mildred Wilkerson, Helen Sutton and Dorothy Dews, and one brother, James S. Burnette.
Survivors include one daughter, Kassandra C. Lutz of Savannah, Georgia; one son, William Emmett Copeland and his wife, Katherine, of Savannah, Georgia; three grandchildren, Zachary A. Copeland and his wife, Megan, Caleb H. Copeland and Kaitlin N. Copeland, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o'clock Thursday evening at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Friday morning in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by the Reverend Thomas W. East, Jr. Interment will be in Hillcrest Abbey ' East.
