Fayrene Sturgis Wilson, age 86, went to be with the Lord on December 14, 2020.
She was born on July 22, 1934 to Nina Durden Sturgis and George Baston Sturgis Sr in Thomson, Georgia and joined George B and Ninette, her two older siblings. She grew up in Twin City, GA in her grandfather's home after tragically losing her father at age 4. Fayrene graduated with Honors from Statesboro High School in 1952 where she was a drum majorette. She went on to graduate from Georgia Teachers College in Statesboro GA with a degree in Education. She moved to Savannah after College to begin teaching and also worked as a bookkeeper for various businesses. She was a member of the Savannah Symphony Orchestra where she played the French horn. Fayrene obtained her Master's degree in Education, with an emphasis in Specific Learning Disabilities from Georgia Southern and taught for some years in the Savannah-Chatham Public Schools. She was married to her devoted husband, Randolph Kent Wilson, Sr. for 53 years. They had many adventures and hobbies together including boating, fishing, scuba diving, and astronomy. They loved traveling to various places in their RV to gather with friends. She and Randy even started a computer accounting consulting business together in their retirement years. Fayrene was also a long-standing member of the Adam Brinson I chapter of Colonial Dames and the Savannah Chapter NSDAR. Her other hobbies included teaching aerobics and sewing. She was loved by all as quick-witted, gregarious and devoted.
Fayrene is survived by her husband Randolph Kent Wilson Sr.; her children Randolph Kent Wilson, Jr (Deborah), Jennifer Cook, and Carla D. Branch (Randall). She is also survived by her grandchildren Casey Branch Moriarty (Daniel), Carla Morgan Branch, Ansley Owens Branch and Randolph K Wilson, III, great-grandchildren June, Branch and Bear Moriarty, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her granddaughter Sarah Elizabeth Cook, and her siblings George B. Sturgis and Ninette McGowin.
The memorial service will be held at a future date. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Savannah.
