SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Eugene "Gene" Aden Tilton, 77, of Savannah, Georgia, passed away on Saturday morning, April 28, 2012, after a long illness.
Born on August 16, 1934, in Savannah, Georgia, he was a son of the late Eugene Merle Tilton, Jr. and the late Maggie Estella McElveen Tilton. Mr. Tilton was a faithful member of Burkhalter Baptist Church until his illness. He was a United States Air Force veteran having served in the Korean Conflict. Mr. Tilton retired after many years of service with The Atlantic Towing Company. During that time he earned his captain's license. He enjoyed his family, boating, fishing, and working in his yard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his children, Jackie Tilton, his amazing wife, Lynette Tilton, and his daughter, Theresa Murray Klein.
Surviving are one son, John A. Tilton; two daughters, Faye T. Anthony and her husband, Wayne, and Gail T. Williams; one sister, Joyce Williams; one brother, Charles Tilton and his wife, Barbara; nine grandchildren, Allan Murray, Alisha Murray, Matthew Klein, Marie Stokes, John "Gene" Tilton, Jennifer Anthony, Thomas "Tommy" Rouse and his wife, Kelly, Carrie Williams and Casey Williams; thirteen great-grandchildren; one niece and one nephew. All of his family lives in Savannah and the surrounding area.
The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 o'clock Monday afternoon at Gamble Funeral Service - 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 3 o'clock Monday afternoon in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by The Reverend Brooks Cail. Interment will be private.
