Eugene Egan 'Gene' Kearney, 93, of Savannah, Georgia, died peacefully in his sleep on Saturday morning, April 16, 2016, at Savannah Square.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Veronica Kearney Harte, and his brothers, James Joseph Kearney, Thomas Gerdon Kearney and William Anthony Kearney, all of Savannah.
A Savannah native, he served his country for more than 53 years, first as a U. S. Navy corpsman during World War II and the Korean Conflict, and then in various capacities with the CDC on Oatland Island and in Atlanta, until his retirement in 1994.
Surviving are nieces, Jane Harte Sipple (Julian) of Tybee Island and Ann Harte of Savannah; nephews, Donald Kearney (Frances) of Texas, Walter Kearney (Janet) of Savannah and Hugh Harte (Marsha) of Buford, Georgia, and all of their families.
The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Saturday morning at the Catholic Cemetery conducted by The Reverend Thomas J. Peyton.
