SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Ethel Triebitz Barbanel, 84, of Savannah, Georgia and widow of Philip Irving Barbanel, died Tuesday morning, July 24, 2012, at Memorial University Medical Center.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of the late Isadore Triebitz and the late Esther Melman Triebitz. Mrs. Barbanel was a member of Congregation Mickve Israel. She volunteered for many Jewish causes including the Savannah Jewish Federation. Mrs. Barbanel was a graduate of New York University School of Education and a member of Psi Chi Omega. She retired from Hillel Academy in Perth Amboy, New Jersey after serving as an elementary school teacher and Vice Principal. Mrs. Barbanel was an avid reader who also enjoyed knitting, sewing, baking and playing golf. She also loved opera and the arts.
Surviving are two daughters, Carin Sophia Barbanel and her husband, Patrick Beh, of New York City, New York and Emelia Linn Barbanel of Savannah, Georgia; two sons, Jacob Barbanel of Lehigh Township, Pennsylvania and Joseph Barbanel and his wife, Lissa Parsonnet Barbanel, of Short Hills, New Jersey, and six grandchildren, Sean Meehan, Dorrie Barbanel, Erica Barbanel, Samantha Barbanel, Jared Beh and Elisha Barbanel Beh.
The funeral service will be held at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning at the graveside, Bonaventure Cemetery, conducted by Rabbi Robert W. Haas.
