Essie Mackey Zipperer, 97, of Savannah, Georgia and widow of Otto Horace 'O.H.' Zipperer, Jr., was called to her Heavenly Home on Friday evening, January 17, 2014.
Born in Savannah, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Herbert Lance Mackey, Sr. and the late Carolyn Abyron Tuttle Mackey. Essie, who suffered from Alzheimer 's disease, was a resident at Azalealand Nursing Home and under the care of Hospice Savannah. Everyone knew and loved her for her sweet disposition and contagious smile. She was a Godly woman whose love and commitment to the Lord was evident in all that she did. Essie was a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church and in later years joined Grace United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Lydia Circle.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Ernest F. Mackey and H. Lance Mackey, both of Savannah, and her sister, Rheta M. Jones of Florida.
Essie left behind a family that will miss her terribly, but are relieved to know she suffers no more.
Surviving are six daughters, Carolyn Z. Sammons, Barbara Z. Edwards, Linda Z. Brown and her husband, James, Jean Z. Calhoun and her husband, Gary, Rheta Z. Garrison and her husband, Charles, and Nancy Z. Gale and her husband, Bobby; one brother, D. Carlton Mackey; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12 until 1 o'clock Monday afternoon at Grace United Methodist Church ' 6412 Waters Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 1 o\'clock Monday afternoon at Grace United Methodist Church conducted by The Reverend Steven R. Purnell and The Reverend Bobby Gale.?? Interment will be in Hillcrest Abbey - East.
