SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Elizabeth Mock Winders, 91, of Savannah, Georgia and widow of Frank Austin Winders, died Tuesday evening, August 28, 2012, at her home and surrounded by her family.
Born on March 17, 1921 in Statesboro, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late John Calhoun Mock and Laura Sims Mock. Her family moved to Pembroke, Georgia where she grew up and graduated from Bryan County High School as her class valedictorian. She has been a resident of Savannah, Georgia since 1939 where she graduated with honors from Draughon's Business College.
Elizabeth was a Brownie Scout Leader at Cathedral School and was a charter member of the Knights Auxiliary, Savannah Council #631 Knights of Columbus. She helped to organize and served as Secretary and Treasurer of the Notre Dame Book Shop for many years, and was later employed as secretary in the book store of Armstrong State College. Elizabeth was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
In addition to her parents, Elizabeth was preceded in death by her loving husband, Frank Austin Winders; two sons-in-law, Rupert S. Heller and Frank C. Ryan, Sr.; a granddaughter, Mary Ellen Ryan; two brothers, Eugene Mock and Carlos Mock, and her sister Grace Gardner.
Surviving are two daughters, Patsy Heller and Joann Ryan, both of Savannah, Georgia; eight grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and several loving and caring nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 6:30 o'clock Friday at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue, with the Rosary service being held at 6:30 o'clock in the funeral home chapel.
The funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the graveside, Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery, conducted by The Reverend Robert R. M. Bagwell.
