Elizabeth Hope Turner passed away Sunday May 19th at Hospice Savannah following a courageous four-year battle with Breast Cancer. Hope was born in LaGrange, GA on January 24, 1960 to Reverend John Kenneth Turner and Shirley Pike Turner. The first quarter of her life was spent living in various locations throughout Georgia while her father served as a Methodist minister. She settled in Savannah in 1979 following her studies at Wesleyan College. Hope was immediately smitten with the low country, where she spent the rest of her years. Hope had a deep dedication to home, loving Savannah for its tradition, beauty, and hospitality.
Hope was known for endeavoring in many careers including beautician, florist, childcare provider, and health care marketing. The common theme of these roles was her service to others. Hope was deeply dedicated to helping those around her in any way that she could. Her love and kindness knew no limits. “Giving the shirt off your back” aptly applied to Hope’s philosophy of life.
Hope was proud to be the daughter and granddaughter of strong women, a trait she worked diligently to pass on to her own daughter and granddaughters. She ensured that they knew their value and fostered their sense of independence tempered with kindness. Hope charted her own course and never missed an opportunity to stand up for that in which she believed.
Hope loved gardening, nature, animals, all things creative, and more than anything her family. Her most beloved role was that as “HoHo” to her two granddaughters. She loved them “more than the air I breathe”. She often said she never truly knew love until she became a grandmother.
To say that Hope as a life force is an understatement. She attacked each day with vigor and a sense of humor. She knew the importance of connection, integrity, and kindness.
Hope is preceded in death by her mother, father, and stepfather.
Hope is survived by her wife Abda Lee Quillian, daughter Elizabeth Douglass (Tim), granddaughters Ella and Rosalie Douglass and her aunt Faye Pike.
The family would like to express their appreciation to her caregivers Nikki Bolden, G’Elayne Williams-Flavien, Jonika Jackson, as well as her Dr. Hayda Perdue and her staff. She would want us to acknowledge Matthew Hester's work in her yard and gardens.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her memory to Stewart Center for Palliative Care at 5356 Reynolds St. Suite 300B Savannah, GA 31405.
Celebration of Life will be held on June 15, 2024 at 2:00pm at the Coastal Georgia Botanical Gardens.
