Elizabeth “Liz” Gowthrop, passed away peacefully February 8, 2023 after a short battle with cancer.
She was born October 5, 1955 in Moorhead MN to her parents, Rueben and Helen Swenson. She is survived by her husband Rick; brother, Dale; sister, Karen; step children, Sean and Erin; four grandchildren, Boyce, Sophia, Griffin, and Charley, a nephew, Adam (who was like a son to her), and a niece Kim.
While managing the Cigna law office, in Denver, Colorado, she met her husband Rick Gowthrop, who was a pilot for a Western Pacific Airlines. They married on December 6, 1997, and created a life of deep love for each another and their children . They relocated to Savannah, GA in March of 1998, where Rick worked as a Demo/Production Test Pilot for Gulfstream Aerospace and Liz continued her work in the legal field and later as an Analyst for Allied Paper until she retired and devoted her life to her family. Those who knew Liz, knew she loved her children and grandchildren. Liz had the opportunity to travel extensively to destinations most people dream of. She and Rick, considered Cabo San Lucas their home away from home where they spent two months a year!
Liz was passionate and dedicated to protecting her family and friends beyond measure. Her effervescence was not containable, it was contagious. While Liz was a practical person, she had no limits to the care and love she had for Rick, the children and grandchildren. Liz had an extensive network of friends throughout the US, Mexico, and especially here in Savannah. It seems no matter where she and Rick went, they came home with new friendships to be treasured.
Our love and memories for the ones we lose runs deep and is forever present! We will miss you Liz!
A funeral service will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church on Skidaway Island, at 1 PM Saturday
February 25th.
