Edward C. Prellwitz, 90, of Savannah, Georgia and husband of Mary Adele Vanden Boogaard Prellwitz, died Thursday, June 19, 2014, at The Oaks at the Marshes of Skidaway Island and under the care of Hospice Savannah.



He was born in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, the son of Edward and Harriet Robien Prellwitz.?? He graduated from the local parochial schools and received his college degree from the University of Wisconsin and at Harvard University.?? He was a Certified Public Accountant.



His initial career was in the public accounting in Chicago with one of the 'Big 3' accounting firms.?? He left public accounting for a career in manufacturing management, first with Cummins Engine Company and later with a conglomerate, General Signal Corporation where he progressed from Unit President to Group Executive and later to Chief Financial Officer.?? With his wife Mary he retired to Savannah from Weston, Connecticut in 1988.



As a retiree in Savannah he derived a lot of satisfaction from volunteer work for 17 years at the Victim Witness Assistance Program in the District Attorney's Office.?? Volunteer work was also done at the Social Apostolate and Medbank.



During his working career at other locations he belonged to the Kiwanis Club and Rotary Club and served on the board of Junior Achievement for many years.



In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Marjorie Fait of Madison, Wisconsin.



He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Prellwitz of Savannah; two sons, Charles Prellwitz and his wife, Belinda, of Cobb County, Georgia, and Thomas Prellwitz of Everett, Washington; a daughter, Nancy Cooper and her husband, William, of Columbus, Ohio, and his grandchildren, Lisa Prellwitz, Charles Prellwitz and his wife, Katie, and Lauren Oliver and her husband, Chris.



The Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 o'clock Monday at St. James Catholic Church conducted by Father Mark J. Ross.?? Interment will be private.
