SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Edith Monroe Lain, 97, of Savannah, Georgia, died Tuesday morning, June 7, 2011, at Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Port Wentworth.
Born in Savannah, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late W. P. R. Monroe and the late Mabel Lennon Monroe. Ms. Lain was an 80 year member of Calvary Baptist Temple where she was also a member of the Invincible Sunday School Class. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Lain; two sisters, Mabel Cowart and Lois Rowell; one brother, William Monroe, and one nephew, Doyce Hendrix.
Survivors include her grandchildren, Ronda Green, Darlene Lain and Mark Lain; her beloved nieces and nephews, Linda Zadach, Ulie Cowart, Billy Cowart, Suzanne Cowart Yaughn, Christopher Cowart, Diane Burdette, Darrell Hendrix, Craig Hendrix, Robbie Hendrix, Charles Hendrix, Bonnie Hendrix, Michael Cannon, Roland Cannon, Jackie Monroe and Joe Monroe; several great-grandchildren and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o'clock Wednesday evening at Gamble Funeral Service - 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 1 o'clock Thursday afternoon in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by The Reverend Wayne Watts. Interment will be in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.
