Edith Margaret Smith Barton, 93, of Savannah, Georgia and widow of MSgt Cardell Fredrick Barton, Jr. U. S. Air Force (Ret.), died Tuesday, September 9, 2014, at her home.



Mrs. Barton was born on September 6, 1921, in Preston, England.?? She was a devoted wife and mother and for several years also worked as an LPN at Memorial Hospital in Savannah.?? She became a 'war bride' in 1943 when she met and married her husband, an American Army Aircorp serviceman during World War II.?? She then came to the U.S. shortly after the war with a new baby and began building a life in her new country.?? She was greatly loved by her family and will be missed by all.



She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, all of whom lived and died in England.?? She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Cardell F. Barton; her son, Stephen Russell Barton and a grandchild, John Christopher Ayala.



She is survived by her son; Michael W. Barton and his wife, Barbara, of Nashville, Tennessee; her daughter, Sheila Barton Ayala of Savannah, Georgia; six grandchildren, Christina Boyette, and her husband Mictchell, Holly Ayala, Cassie Ledoux, and her husband Charley, Jason Barton, and his wife, Katie, Warren Barton, and his wife Kym, Cathy Speizman, Tiffany Witt and Taylor Barton; nine great grandchildren and her extended English family includes two nieces and several great nieces and nephews.



The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 o'clock Friday afternoon at Gamble Funeral Service - 410 Stephenson Avenue.



The funeral service will be held 2 o'clock on Friday at Gamble Funeral Service Chapel with the Reverend John A. Haney conducting.?? Interment will be at Hillcrest Abbey ' West.
