Dr. Robert 'Bob' Gerald Schwartz, 78, of Savannah, Georgia and husband of Carolyn 'Carol' Soyars Schwartz, died Thursday morning, July 15, 2021, at St. Joseph's Hospital.
Born in Chicago, Illinois, he was a son of the late Max M. Schwartz and the late Golda Smith Schwartz. Bob was a member of Congregation Agudath Achim in Savannah. He earned his doctorate in chemistry from Iowa State University. Bob was a tenured professor at Mercer University, Atlanta Campus. He left Mercer University in 2002 and became an endowed chair and distinguished professor at Eastern Washington University in Spokane. Bob and Carol retired to Savannah in 2009, where he enjoyed reading and spending time at the beach.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Carolyn 'Carol' Soyars Schwartz; two sons, Jerry Schwartz and his partner, Katja Kolosovsky, and Benjamin Schwartz and his wife, Tomoko; one granddaughter, Miki; one sister, Eileen Schwartz, and one niece, Marissa Brooks.
The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Sunday morning, July 18, 2021, at the graveside, Bonaventure Cemetery, conducted by Rabbi Steven B. Henkin.
