Dr. Michel "Mike" Franklin Steinfeldt, 81, of Savannah, Georgia, and widower of Arlene Neufeld
Steinfeldt, passed away Saturday afternoon, May 6, 2023, at his home.
Michel Steinfeldt grew up in Brookline, Massachusetts. He was active in his synagogue, Temple Sinai, and loved everything Boston, especially the Celtics, Red Sox, and Patriots.
He went to Tufts University for his undergraduate in biochemistry and graduated from Tufts University School of Medicine in 1967. Dr. Steinfeldt then transferred to Akron Children's Hospital in Akron, Ohio, where he cared for families from 1967 to 1970, ultimately serving as the chief resident. While in Akron for his pediatric residency, he had his children, David and Lisa. Danny came along while he was later stationed in Beaufort, South Carolina. From 1970 to 1972 Dr. Steinfeldt served in the United States Navy, and was honorably discharged as a Lieutenant Junior Grade. The family then moved to Savannah where he joined Savannah Pediatrics. He practiced medicine for 41 years and had many patients that loved and respected him. Although busy with work, he always made time for his family. He was a committed and loving father.
Married for fifteen years to the love of his life, Arlene Neufeld Steinfeldt, they enjoyed playing golf and bridge together, competing in many tournaments. One of their claims to fame was the time he and Arlene defeated the top bridge pair in the world. His passions in life were golf, bridge, cigars, music, reading, and spending time with family. He obtained the title of Silver Life Master at bridge and was extremely proud of his sixteen holes in one in golf.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, Martin David Steinfeldt and Augusta Cohen Steinfeldt.
Survivors include his brother, Sumner Steinfeldt, his children, David (Amy) Steinfeldt, Lisa (Ricky) Leff, and Danny Steinfeldt; grandchildren, Ray, Rebecca, Rachel, Jacob, and Gabriel; step-children, Dr. Andrew Berens, Dr. Lisa Scott, and Carolyn Slipakoff; step-grandchildren, Cameron, Colby, Talia, Landon, Avery, Ben, and Connor; step-sister, Dr. Elizabeth Neufeld, and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Tuesday morning, May 9, 2023, at the graveside, Bonaventure Cemetery, conducted by Rabbi Robert W. Haas.
