Edloe Pendleton 'Penny' Jones III, 81, of Johns Creek, Georgia and husband of Mary Jo Jones, died Thursday morning, May 13, 2021 with his family at his side.
Born in Manning, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Edloe Pendleton 'E. P.' Jones II and the late Cooper Belle Dickson Jones. 'Penny' graduated from Manning High School and earned his BA in Human Relations from Oglethorpe University and his postgraduate Juris Doctorate degree from Woodrow Wilson College of Law.
'Penny' retired as a professional scouter from the Boy Scouts of America after 43 years of service. He was with the Atlanta Area Council Boy Scouts of America for 33 years working in various positions during his tenure: Camp Director of Bert Adams Scout Reservation (during its first year of operation), Assistant District Executive, District Executive, Activities Director, Business Manager, Endowment Director and Director of Support Services. He served for 10 years as the Associate Regional Director and Endowment Council for the Southern Region Boy Scouts of America before his retirement. 'Penny' is an Eagle Scout and Silver Beaver Award recipient.
He was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church in Roswell. 'Penny' also served as a past Chairperson of the Board of Southwest Christian Care Hospice in Union City.?? ??During his lifetime, he served as a member of the Board of Trustees of Oglethorpe University, a member of the Board of Milligan College, a charter member for the Planned Giving Council of Georgia, a member of the Youth Advisory Council for the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games, a member of the American Humanics Advisory Board for Clayton College and State University, and a longtime Rotarian and past President of the Rotary Club of West End of Atlanta.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 53 years, Mary Jo Jones; one daughter, Mary Beth Bierbaum and her husband, Ben; two grandsons, Ben Jr. and Brandon; one brother, Carter H. Jones and his wife, Mary Jo, and two nephews, Jonathan Jones, and his wife, Denise, and their two children, and Craig Jones and his wife, Jae-Won, and their son.
A memorial service will be held at 11 o'clock Saturday morning, May 22, 2021, at Northminster Presbyterian Church ' 2400 Old Alabama Road in Roswell.
A graveside service will be held at 11 o'clock Saturday morning, June 5, 2021, in the Manning Cemetery in Manning, South Carolina.
