Dr. David Boley Byck, 60, of Savannah, Georgia and husband of Dr. Peggy Lee Byck, died Thursday morning, November 19, 2020, at his home with his family at his side.



Dr. David Boley Byck, 60, of Savannah died early Thursday morning at his home, with his family by his side. He was the husband of Dr. Peggy Lee Byck and the son of Ellen Rothschild Byck & David Amram Byck III, all of Savannah.



David will be remembered by the many people that he touched over the course of his life for his devotion and passion for his family and for being a respected and dedicated member of his medical profession.?? David loved Savannah, and he selflessly donated his time, energy and boundless enthusiasm to help make this city a better place. All of those who knew him have countless memories of David's tremendous compassion, his dedication to always doing the right thing, and of his being a trusted friend to so many.



David was born in Savannah on May 14, 1960.?? His parents provided him with an early understanding of the importance of being an active part of the community and of working to improve the lives of others.



David graduated from the Savannah Country Day School in 1978. He then attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.?? We will all remember David's passion for the Tar Heels, including them winning the NCAA basketball championship during his senior year.



After graduating from UNC, David attended the Medical College of Georgia.?? At MCG, David met Peggy, and they married in 1986.?? After David and Peggy completed their medical residencies in Birmingham, they moved to Savannah and began practicing medicine at Memorial Health University Medical Center.



David's legacy at Memorial is extensive. He practiced as a physician for over 30 years and held many positions at Memorial Health, including Chief of Staff, Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, and the Director of the Obstetrics & Gynecology residency program. He also served as a professor at the Mercer University School of Medicine. Many times, during his career, David was recognized by his peers for his leadership, including a term serving as President of the Georgia Obstetrical & Gynecological Society.?? He was a tireless advocate at the state level for women's reproductive rights and investing in ongoing medical education programs. He was a beloved leader, partner, physician and mentor to many and there is not a person whose life he touched who is not better for knowing him. He held everyone to a higher standard and did it all with kindness and humility.



In addition to his giving back to the medical community, David was president of the board of adjunta of Congregation Mickve Israel and acted as an officer and board member for many years. He served on the board of the Savannah Jewish Federation and was chairman of its annual giving campaign. David was also a board member of the Jewish Educational Alliance and president of the Shalom Religious School board.



As a son, husband, father, brother, uncle, and grandfather, David will be remembered for his love of flying and boating and for leading family trips across the world.?? He was well-known for his love of music, snow skiing, fly-fishing, playing pranks on unsuspecting family members, and for always having a quick wit. Nevertheless, everyone who knew David understood that his exemplary character guided every action. Friends and family knew that he could always be counted on to guide and support them through any crisis, large or small.



David's biggest joys in life came from his wife (Peggy), daughters (Amanda, Jessica, Elle) & being 'PaPa' to his three grandchildren (Clark, Harper, David).



In addition to Peggy, his wife of 34 years, Dr. Byck is survived by three daughters, Amanda Jones (Powell), Jessica Hensley (Trent), & Elle Byck; grandsons, Clark Jones & David Hensley; granddaughter, Harper Hensley; mother, Ellen R. Byck; brother, Edwin Byck (Melinda); sister, Nancy Burton; along with several nephews.



The family requests that anyone who would like to attend his service, which will be held at 1 o'clock Sunday afternoon, November 22, 2020, at the graveside, Bonaventure Cemetery, conducted by Rabbi Robert W. Haas, wear a mask and maintain a respectful distance.
