Dr. T. Beeton

SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Dr. Peter James Tillstone Beeton, 88, of Savannah, Georgia, husband of Petronella "Nell" Augusta Biekart Beeton, died Wednesday afternoon, September 30, 2009, at Savannah Square surrounded by his family.
Born in Brighton, England, he was a son of the late Barnard Beeton and the late Dulcie Tillstone Beeton.  Dr. Beeton was of the Episcopal faith. He was a member of the South African Division of the British Navy for four years. Dr. Beeton graduated from New York Medical College in 1953. He did his internal medicine residency at United States Public Health Service Hospital on Staten Island in 1959 and earned his Masters of Public Health at Johns Hopkins in 1968. Dr. Beeton was in charge of the United States Public Health Service Hospital in Savannah from 1968 until 1976. He retired as a Captain after 25 years with the United States Civil Service at Tuttle Clinic on Hunter Army Air Field and prior to that was a Captain for 23 years for the United States Public Health Service. Dr. Beeton was a volunteer American Red Cross Lifesaving Instructor and an assistant coach for the Hunter Army Air Field Swim Team. He was a member of the Savannah Celtic Pipe Band in the 1980's. Dr. Beeton loved the water, woodworking, photography and playing the bagpipe. He was an accomplished cabinet maker who was known for his quips and great sense of humor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Elisabeth Murphy, and her husband, Butch.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Petronella "Nell" Augusta Biekart Beeton of Savannah, Georgia; one son, Scott D. Beeton and his wife, Paula, of Birmingham, Alabama; three daughters, Gail Beeton Hardison and her husband, Eddie, and Nan Beeton Edson and her husband, Bruce, all of Tampa, Florida, and Dawn Beeton Kicklighter and her husband, Donnie, of Savannah, Georgia; nine grandchildren, Peter, Samantha, Lance, Lauren, Paige, Haley, Kelly, Lisa and Christy, and several nieces and nephews.
A private memorial service will be held at 1 o'clock Sunday afternoon in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by The Reverend Peter J. Hartmann.  Interment will be private.
