Dorothy Abbott Whitlock, 79, passed away on March 21, 2013, at Hospice Savannah after a long courageous battle with cancer.



She was born in Savannah and spent her entire life here graduating from Commercial High School. She worked and retired from Savannah Bank and Trust and then worked 10 years at Memorial Medical Center. Dorothy was a sweet and loving wife, mother, grandmother and caring friend to many.?? She was active in her beloved Asbury Church sewing with the Busy Bee group.?? She loved playing cards, games, line dancing, the beach and she traveled the world taking many trips with family and friends. She was an active member of the Elks Auxiliary, serving as a past president.?? Her many Elks Club friendships remained with her throughout her life.?? She was an excellent cook and delighted in making family birthday dinners and their favorite cakes.?? She (Grandma Dot) especially enjoyed her precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren.?? She was preceded in death by her parents, Rufus L. Abbott and Marjorie T. Abbott, and her brother R.L. Abbott.



She is survived by her husband of 62 years, James R Whitlock (Buddy), daughter Anita McKenzie, son James R. (Jimmy) Whitlock, Jr of Lilburn, GA, and his wife Patsy.?? Also survived by her grandchildren, Charles Eric McKenzie and wife Katherine, Neil Patrick McKenzie and wife Laura, Drew Nicholas McKenzie and wife Jennifer, James Rowland Whitlock III and Melissa Marie Whitlock, both of Lilburn, GA. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Charles Aidan McKenzie, Graeme Galya McKenzie, Ashlyn Parker McKenzie, Jackson Lynwood McKenzie, Jacob Beau McKenzie and Destin Lawrence Simon. She is also survived by her brother Reginald D. Abbott of Savannah and sister-in-law Gretta, along with many other nieces, nephews and cousins.



The family will receive family and friends from 11 until 12 noon??Monday, March 25, 2013,??at Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church.



The memorial service will be held at 12 noon Monday at Asbury??Memorial United Methodist Church.
