Dorothy Von Waldner

d. November 7, 2020

Dorothy 'Dottie' Ann Johnson von Waldner, 80, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2020 after a long illness.

She was born July 1, 1940 in Savannah to Daisy Leona Johnson and Earl Cecil Johnson. She married Harry Joseph von Waldner, Sr. soon after graduating from Savannah High School in 1959. They were married for 18 years until his death in 1977. After Harry's death, she was tasked with raising her three children, Jay, Joye, and Greg, alone. She put her personal life on hold and lived her life with one single purpose: to give her children all the love and support that they could ever want or need. She worked at Sears, in Oglethorpe Mall, for over 30 years and was a longtime member of St. James Catholic Church. She was a fiercely independent woman who loved and cared deeply for everyone that she met. She enjoyed dancing, Caribbean cruising, and just hanging out with her friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Leona and Earl, and her husband, Harry.

Dottie is survived by her sister, Kay Blanton (Tommy), her children: Jay von Waldner (Diane), Joye Barras (David) and Greg von Waldner (Teri), her eight grandchildren: David Barras, Jr., Kinsey Barras, Tyler von Waldner (Lexie), Kevin von Waldner (Mallory), Parker von Waldner, Logan von Waldner, Samantha von Waldner, Casey von Waldner, and one great-grandson, Braiden Barras. All of these she loved and cherished deeply.
