Dorothy Lee Bolton Henderson, 89, of Oak Ridge, TN, passed away May 28th. A longtime resident of Savannah, GA, 'Dot' was born in Tampa, FL. She was predeceased by her parents Horace Lee and Leeila Lynn Bolton, stepmother Kathryn Dubose Bolton, spouse William 'Bill' Ross Henderson, Sr., and nephew Mark Lee Bolton.



Survivors include: son William Ross Henderson, Jr. [Karen], daughter Carole Lynn Henderson Elrod [Butch]; grandchildren John Grant Elrod [Tanya], Jason Hill [Teri] and Alicia Hill; great-grandchildren Will Elrod, Caralyn Elrod, Christian Caputo, Kynon Ruchalski, Kasidy Ruchalski and Xander Hill: brother Horace Neil Bolton [Janice], niece Sandra Lynn Bolton and great-niece Natalie Bolton; special friends Debra Andrews, Betty Darby and Mikki Mashburn [Many thanks Mikki for all you've done!], special feline companion Muffin along with many other friends and acquaintances. She loved you all!!



Dot was employed for 29 years by the Chatham County, GA Board of Education first as assistant then as Secretary to the Board.



In addition to being an avid reader and member of book clubs and excelling at needlework, Dot loved to travel with trips throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, the Far East and New Zealand.



A member of First Presbyterian Church of Savannah since 1950, she was active in the Women of the Church serving as Circle Leader, Vice-President and President.



Dot was also active in civic and social organizations including the AMDOES, Delta Chapter of American Businesswomen, charter member of the Savannah Area Lioness Club, PEO, a charter member of the Savannah-Hostess City Lions for which she served as 1st, 2nd and 3rd Vice-Presidents as well as President and the Arissa Garden Club of Oak Ridge. In addition, she was the first female Director of the Georgia Lions Lighthouse and served as a Director for the Georgia Lions' Camp for the Blind. She also volunteered her services for the Georgia Radio Reading Room and the 8th Air Force Museum.



In 1999, the Lions Club International named Dot a Melvin Jones Fellow for her 'dedication to making the world a better place through humanitarian service.'



She will be missed but we celebrate her life with joy. In honor and memory, the family suggests donations to the Georgia Lions' Camp for the Blind, First Presbyterian Church of Savannah, GA, the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.



The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o'clock Friday evening, June 2, 2017, at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue.



A graveside service will be held at 10 o'clock Saturday morning, June 3, 2017, in Bonaventure Cemetery with a memorial service at 11:30 Saturday morning at First Presbyterian Church. A reception at the church will follow the memorial service.
