Doris Marie Thompson Rhodes, 77, of Savannah, Georgia, and widow of Roy Thomas Rhodes, died Monday evening, December 13, 2021, at Hospice Savannah.
Born in Savannah, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late P.J. Thompson and the late Freida Harn Wright. Doris worked for several years as a pre-school teacher, as well as the housemother of the Florence Crittenton Home, where she and her husband assisted young ladies. Doris could be best described as a true southern lady. Incredibly sweet, she never had a bad word for anyone. Doris was also a fighter, despite her illness, it seemed like she had nine lives. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and friends. She will be deeply missed.
In addition to her husband, and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherry Rhodes Dion; a granddaughter, Amber Brinson; a sister, Donnie; sisters-in-law, Glenda Thompson, Ann Oglesby, and Charlene Williams, and her birds, Beck-Beck and Angela.
Survivors include her daughters, Becky L. Brinson and her husband, Bobby Brinson, Angela D. Smith and her husband, Tony Smith; grandchildren, Ashley Bright, Jessica Brinson, Jake Brinson, Remi Aspen Smith, Taylor Smith, Tori Smith and Alex Smith; siblings, James Thompson, Wanda Hanneman and her husband, Bob Hanneman, and Nita Shelton and husband, Jim Shelton; brother-in-law, Eddie Williams and his wife, Carol Williams; great-niece and great-nephew, Gabriel and Gracelynn, several nieces and nephews, her beloved grand-cats, Pookie Brinson and Prissy Brinson, and grand-dogs, Channing Tatum, Pharoh Smith, and Lila.
The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 o'clock Friday, December 17, 2021, at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock Friday, December 17, 2021, in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service. Interment will be in the Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
