Doris Montez Ellis McKinney, 100, of Rincon, Georgia, died Sunday morning,
December 25, 2022, at her home.
Born in Branchville, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Earnest and Lula
(Pettit) Ellis. Doris was a founding member of Savannah Christian Church, now
Compassion Christian. She retired from Kmart and spent her retirement babysitting,
volunteering for her church, playing cards and BINGO and spending quality time with
her friends and family. She was also an avid baseball fan and loved the Atlanta Braves.
Although she never attended one of their games, she used to hold season tickets for the
Savannah Cardinals and Sand Gnats and went to every game she could.
She is pre-deceased by her husband, William Irvin McKinney, six siblings, and her only
child, Edna Gnann.
Survivors include her grandchildren, Beverly Hill (Steve), Russell
Gnann (George), great-grandsons Corbin and Cameron Hill, two great-great grandsons,
and several nieces, nephews.
The memorial service will take place at 10 o’clock Saturday morning, January 7, 2023, at Compassion Christian Church – 55 Al Henderson Boulevard, conducted by the Reverend Blair Walker, Reverend Steve Helmly, Reverend Cam Huxford, and Reverend Harrison Huxford. Interment will take place in Forest Lawn Memory Garden.
