Donna Rhea (pronounced ‘RAY’ because Donnarrhea is an awful name) Reeves Russo Rubenstein Horesh passed away in her home in Savannah on May 16th, 2023.
Raised on “That God-forsaken Mountain” in Albertville, AL, Donna spent most of her adult life living in Birmingham, AL and Savannah. She was a darn-good nurse and a darn-good mother. Known for her colorful language, feisty personality, and quick wit, she had a compassion and love for everyone she met, especially the underdog.
Donna graduated from Albertville High School in 1982 and became a Registered Nurse. She took great pride in her nearly four-decade-long career in nursing, and even greater pride in her five children, which she affectionately called “six too many.” Without doubt, children were her greatest accomplishment.
Professionally she was known for her brilliance, “too honest” attitude and compassion, she loved all of her baby docs, nurses, and techs who referred to her as “Maleficent” or “Momma”, both names she considered an honor. From her glory days as an ICU nurse, to the peace she found working with hospice, her family extends their gratitude to those that brought out the very best in her.
She is preceded in death by her father Howard Reeves, brother-in-law Tommy Rhodarmer, and sister Christie Beck.
Donna is survived by her children; Michelle (Matthew) Allan (her Black Eyed Wonderbeetle), Juniper (Tristen) Russo (her Middlie), Aliya Rubenstein (Le Boog, whom she loved better than Elvis),Erin Horesh (her Angel Child) and Jordan Horesh (JoBear-her son, her son, her only son whom she LOVED); her grandchildren that loved their DeeDee, Lila and Raphael Allan, Vivian, Darwin and Crystal Russo her mother, Vonnie Reeves; siblings Howard Reeves, Robyn Rhodarmer, and Alana Wolfe (She loved you more. The end. She wins) ; many nieces and nephews; and a very special niece, Ashley Applebaum- the best person she knew; She is also survived by her dogs, Roxanne and Indigo, who she said were actually her favorite children.
