SAVANNAH, GEORGIA -Donald "Don" Mahan Dickinson, 81, of Savannah, Georgia widower of Emma Jean Parks Dickinson, died Sunday evening, March 13, 2011, at home under the care of Hospice Savannah.
Born in Harlan, Kentucky, he was a son of the late John Anderson 'Jack' Dickinson and the late Dorcas Ellison Dickinson. Don and Jean moved from Canada to Savannah in 1960. Don was a United States Airforce Veteran, having served in two Korean Conflicts. He was of the Baptist faith and was a retired Air Traffic Controller at the Savannah Airport. Don was a beloved husband, loving father, grandfather and great grandfather and brother. Don, as everyone knew him, gave unselfishly to family and friends alike. He opened his home and his heart to all who knew and loved him. Don will be deeply missed. He was proud to have been asked to stand in for Grey Parks following his passing to give Grey's daughters hand in marriage. He was a father that his sons will always strive to live up to his example.
Surviving are two sons, Scott Dickinson and his wife, Patricia, of Savannah, Georgia and Todd Dickinson and his wife, Kathy, of Aynor, South Carolina; six grandchildren, Bruce Jue, Jonathan Dickinson, Jamie Jue, Christopher Dickinson, Jennifer Greever, Phillip Dickinson; three great grandchildren, Arya Jue, Jordan Dickinson and Aaden Greever. In addition to his parents Don was preceded in death by Jack Ross and James Ansel.
The family will receive friends from 11 until 12 o'clock Wednesday at Gamble Funeral Service - 410 Stephenson Avenue, Savannah.
The funeral service will be held at 12 o'clock Wednesday afternoon in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by Charlie Wilkins. Entombment will be in Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park-East.
