SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Donald "Don" Gilbert Cherry, 78, of Savannah, Georgia, husband of Jimmie Gossett Cherry, died Saturday afternoon, August 15, 2009, at Hospice Savannah.
Mr. Cherry was born in Washington, D.C., to the late William Cherry and the late Dorothy Cherry. Don was a member of St. George Episcopal Church and was in the United States Marine Corps. He graduated from Mississippi State University and worked for thirty years as a civil engineer with the United States Corps of Engineers.
Surviving are his wife of fifty seven years, Jimmie Gossett Cherry of Savannah, Georgia; one daughter, Debbie Cherry Duncan, of Savannah, Georgia; three grandchildren, Ty Duncan of Atlanta, Georgia, and Jami and Kelly Duncan of Savannah, Georgia; one niece and one nephew of Maryland.
The funeral service will be held at 4 o'clock Tuesday afternoon in Westminster Presbyterian Church in Ripley, Mississippi, conducted by Brother Bill Connolly. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
