Martha Diane Duewall Smith, 69, of Savannah, Georgia, and wife of Reverend Dr. Dewain Edwin Smith, entered into eternal life on June 19, 2018.
A resident of Savannah, Georgia, she was born in Taylor, Texas, on October 23, 1948. Diane was a communicant of the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist.
She was predeceased by her parents, LeRoy Alfred Duewall and Johnelle Jackson Bradley Duewall Kasprowicz; also brothers, David Mark Duewall and Dana Michael Duewall.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Deacon Dewain Edwin Smith, Ph.D.; children, Paul Buschmann Smith (Christina), Mary Catherine Henning, Anne Elizabeth Clark (Carl), and Lydia Eleanor Hodgson (Andrew); eleven grandchildren; brother, Matthew Duewall; family members, Donald 'Schatze' Kasprowicz, and Lois Pressler Duewall, nieces, nephews, and many cousins.
A Christian Wake Service with Rosary will be held at 5 o'clock Friday afternoon in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service, 410 Stephenson Avenue, with the family receiving friends afterwards until 7:30.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 o'clock Saturday morning at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, conducted by Reverend J. Gerard Schreck. Interment will be in the Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests remembrances to the Sisters of Mercy at St. Joseph's/Candler Hospital, Attention: Sister Margie Beatty, 5353 Reynolds Street, Savannah, Georgia 31405.
