Dena Yaschik Bodziner, 86, of Savannah, Georgia and widow of Dr. Lawrence S. Bodziner, died Friday afternoon, April 5, 2013, at her home and under the care of Hospice Savannah.



Born in Charleston, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Ben Yaschik and the late Vera Blacher Yaschik. She was a woman of remarkable beauty and was passionate about clothing and jewelry. Mrs. Bodziner was even more passionate about books and education, but her greatest passion was holocaust education and studies. She was also passionate about working for civil rights and headed many civic and political groups in Savannah, pursuing that goal of promoting human and civil rights for all. Mrs. Bodziner was a volunteer for numerous civic organizations and a member of the boards of Savannah Jewish Federation, Hadassah and the Yaschik/Arnold Jewish Studies at the College of Charleston. She and her husband left an endowment fund for holocaust studies.



Survivors include one daughter, Brenda Rabhan; two sons, Dr. Richard A. Bodziner and his wife, Merry, and Michael Bodziner and his partner, Gary McNatton; five grandchildren, Jonathan Rabhan and his wife, Anna, Brian Rabhan, Alisha Rabhan, Erica Gal and her husband, Raanon, and Lisa Bodziner and three great-grandchildren, Judah Gal, Maayan Gal, and Leora Gal.



The funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the graveside, Bonaventure Cemetery, conducted by Rabbi Avigdor Slatus.



The family will sit Shiva at the residence of Dr. Richard A. Bodziner.
