David Barron Silverman

d. May 12, 2015

David Barron Silverman, 58, of Savannah, Georgia, husband of Andrea Ryan Silverman and father of Hannah Elizabeth and Sam Galin Silverman and co-owner of Spanky's Restaurants, died Tuesday afternoon, May 12, 2015, at his home surrounded by his family.

Born in Savannah, Georgia, he was a son of the late Benjamin Silverman and the late Edith Berman Silverman. David was a faithful servant of Congregation Bnai Brith Jacob where he served as a past president and vice-president of the synagogue. David was a member of Congregation BBJ burial society, Chevra Kadisha and received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the BBJ Congregation in 2014. His faith in God extended into all aspects of his life. He had a huge heart and his actions were a testimony to his belief in treating others better than you expected to be treated yourself. He touched many lives in a quiet anonymous manner. Many people have received a new start due to his generosity and commitment to humanity. David, who had a heart for helping others, was truly a servant to all people. He genuinely respected and saw dignity in every person.

Our community has lost a true 'Mentsch', - a selfless human being whose primary concern was the welfare of others.

The greatest pride and joy of David's life was his family. He was a devoted husband and father. He lived each day to instill in his children the life lessons and values that were most important to him. His life was an awesome example of a life well lived. David's children, Hannah and Sam, will always cherish the legacy of their father's life.

David's extended family was the Spanky's gang. He led by example teaching teamwork along the way. He never expected anyone to do something he wasn't willing to do himself. His work ethic and tough love made Spanky's more of a family than a business. When you entered Spanky's it was like coming into your own home. David's humanitarian efforts were most evident through his involvement in Help Save One of Our Own where he served as a founder and member of the Board of Directors.

David offered his time and hand to everyone. Even during his illness he continued to come to the aid of his family and friends. He put others ahead of himself and always had a positive 'SUPER FANTASTIC' attitude. Our community has lost a selfless, gentle and humble soul.

David graduated from Savannah Country Day School. He enjoyed boating and fishing the estuaries near his beloved Isle of Hope. He loved riding his motorcycle and boating with his brother Victor. He loved spending time in his shop working on numerous woodworking projects and the restoration of vintage vehicles especially his 1957 Chevrolet truck.

In addition to his parents, his sister, Donna Lee Silverman, precedes him in death.

Surviving are his wife of 25 years, Andrea Ryan Silverman of Savannah; his daughter, Hannah Elizabeth Silverman and his son, Samuel Galin Silverman both of Savannah; his brother, Dr. Victor Silverman (Saba), of Atlanta; his father and mother-in-law Tim and Mary Ryan; brothers and sisters-in-law; Michael (Laura) Ryan, Angela (Craig) Thomas, Meg (Robert) Crider all of Savannah and Eileen (Jim) Ogletree of Griffin; a number of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; his dog, Cooper, and his cat, Molly.

The graveside funeral service will be Thursday, May 14, 2015 at 12:30 pm at Bonaventure Cemetery, conducted by Rabbi Avigdor Slatus.

The family will receive friends at Bnai Brith Jacob Synagogue after the service. The family will sit Shiva at the home.

The Silverman family would like to express sincere gratitude to David's Oncologist, Dr. George Negrea and the entire staff at Low Country Cancer Care Associates P.C. and the deepest appreciation to life long friend, Dr. Morris Geffen, for his tireless support to David and the entire family.
