SAVANNAH, GA - David Hirsch, 93, of Savannah, Georgia, devoted widower of Celia Scheer Hirsch, loving father and grandfather, died Sunday afternoon, June 7, 2009, at his home under the care of Hospice Savannah.
Mr. Hirsch was born February 25, 1916, in Savannah, Georgia, to the late Samuel Hirsch and the late Annie Hirsch. David and Celia owned and operated the original STEAK HOUSE on Victory Drive for over 25 years and were known for his famous steakhouse cheese spread. He was an extraordinary cook and loved sharing and gathering with family. David was a very giving person and never asked for anything in exchange.
David and Celia were married seventy one years.
Surviving are three sons, Alvin S. Hirsch and his wife, Kay, Carl M. Hirsch and his wife, Lee, and Marvin R. Hirsch and his wife, Barbara; three sisters, Sonya Diamond of Savannah, Georgia, Bessie Friedman and her husband Lou of Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Irene Baker of Charleston, S.C.; two brothers, Harold Hirsch and Julian Hirsch; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; his loving caretaker, Sonya Takats, and his very close and dear friend, Bill Hendrix.
The funeral service will be held at 12 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the graveside, Bonaventure Cemetery, conducted by Rabbi Avigdor Slatus.
