David Elkin Carter, 63, of Savannah, Georgia and husband of Patricia 'Patty' Heidt Carter, passed away Friday evening, July 14, 2017, at his home with his family at his side.
Born in Savannah, Georgia, he was a son of the late Champ Elkin Carter and the late Sara Elizabeth Howard Carter. David was a member of Islands Christian Church. David worked as a control room operator with International Paper for more than 40 years. He was an avid NASCAR, UGA football and Atlanta Falcons fan. David was devoted to his church and his family and enjoyed fishing and crabbing.
Surviving are his wife of 28 years, Patricia 'Patty' Heidt Carter of Savannah, Georgia; two daughters, Rachel Carter Foote and her husband, Ryan, of Rincon, Georgia and Rebecca Lynn Carter of Savannah, Georgia; one son, Matthew David Carter of Beaufort, South Carolina; four grandchildren, Kaitlyn Foote, Bradley Foote, Amelia Carter and Emma Carter; one brother, Joseph Carter and his wife, Diane, of Savannah, Georgia, and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5 until7 o'clock Monday, July 17, 2017, at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 7 o'clock Monday evening, July 17, 2017, in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by The Reverend Vernon R. Edenfield. Interment will be private.
